Prabhakara Rao. The Vice Chancellor of Dravidian University, Prof. C.Ramanaiah felt that the status of classical language is given first to Tamil and later to Telugu and Kannada. Telugu is a soft language, because it has very nice chandas. That is why the great Tamil poet Subramania Bharati expressed Telugu as Sundara Telugu . So, we are all one, the Dravidians and we should unite together without quarrelling ourselves. The four great languages are ours; the great culture is ours; the primitive race is ours. The Dravidian University is the common platform for all these four states, and we are trying to include Puducherry also. Our Tamil brothers have to do so many activities, projects jointly with the Dravidian University .

In the Valedictory address, the Vice-Chancellor of S.V. University, Professor N. Prabhakara Rao expressed that Dravidian Culture is not only the greatest, but also an ancient one. 75 million people of Tamil are living in 15 countries including Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, in which Tamil is approved as one of their languages. Increase of a man s memory will happen only by learning more languages. Learning a Dravidian Language is better than learning a foreign language, because it creates integration among South Indians. In case of Telugu, it is propagated only by the service rendered by Dr. C.P. Brown, who translated most of the Telugu works into English. In that way our Government has to show interest on developing Telugu language in the way of Tamil. Telugu people are also spread throughout the world and the activities should go along with them.

The seminar was attended by not only by the staff and students of Dravidian university, but also scholars from Vellore, Tiruppathur, Vaniyambadi and Chennai. The Department of Tamil and Translation Studies had arranged Boarding and Lodging to them for all the three four days. Dr. Vishnukumaran proposed vote of thanks.

***

Seminars Organized by the Dept. of Folklore and Tribal Studies

National Folklore Conference

Dravidian University s Department of Folklore and Tribal Studies conducted a three-day National Conference in association with Folklore Society of South Indian Languages (FOSSILS) at Kuppam as part of the latter s bi-decennial celebrations.

In his talk on Folklore and the development of aborigines , A.
