Establishment of the Dept.
The Dept. of Computer Science was established in 1999 with the assistance of the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh and subsequently reorganized as the Department of Computer & Allied Sciences and emerged as the lead Department for the Mathematical and Engineering Sciences in the University.  Presently the Department is bifurcated as Department of Computer Science and Department of Mathematical Sciences for fast growth and efficient functioning.
Major objectives
Spread of Computer Knowledge in the University Area  · Provision of a central computing facility for all students and staff of the University   · Assistance for Researchers  · Offering  Computer, Mathematics, Statistics and Electronics Courses. More Departments are emerging with this goal now.   ·  Research in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing, Mathematics, Statistics.                 · Assistance to University Administration in Records Management.  ·  To Impart Latest Knowledge to all Staff and Students in Emerging Information Technologies.  · To Develop Human Resources.  ·  Continuous  Upgradation of  Knowledge and Equipment.

                             ·          Integrated 5 Years MSc(Math & Computer Applications), MSc(Statistics & Computer Applications) and MSc(Computer Science) and parttime Diploma Programmes
                             ·          The Department of Bio-Informatics and Bio-Technology is offering a 2 Years M.Sc.(Bio-Informatics) Programme in collaboration with this Department. The Department also participates in the coordination and running of the BBM, B.Com., B.Ed., B.Sc. Programmes on the campus by various Units.
                             ·          The Department has also coordinated the 21st Century Gurukulam on the campus, meant to benefit the rural graduate students to obtain M.Tech../MS(IT) PG Degree in collaboration with the Carnegie Mellon University, USA and IIIT, Hyderabad, a unique programme of its kind ever initiated in India by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh through the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education. Presently this unit is headed by a fulltime Director (since May 2007).

The Department has excellent computational facilities that match with the best of the other Universities in the region and always inducts  superior equipment and latest software, covering a wide spectrum of learning, application as well as development fields in the mathematical and computer science environments, continuously.

Details of Hardware Available in the Department
The Department of Computer Science occupied the BASAVA BHAVAN sanctioned by the Govt. of Karnataka and functions there from. It occupied about 80% of the space available in the large complex and has good accommodation facilities for the current equipment and for future additions of equipment and staff.

                  ·           Apart from these, the University has liberally provided for central air conditioning of Computer Lab-1 covering about 3000 sft and split air-conditioners for Computer Lab -2 covering about 2400 sft.

                ·               Internet facility for about 150 computers.
