Establishment of the Department: September – October 2003.
Faculty
Prof. D. Ananda Naidu served the Department as its founder- Professor. Prof. P. Yenadi Raju, Professor of History (Retd.), earlier with the Sri Venkateswara University, joined this Department on 22 September 2007.

Courses offered
(a) P.G. Course – II year M.A. in History, Archaeology and Culture: The M.A. course includes papers related to the recent trends in historical studies which have logical, chronological and cultural continuity. The papers being offered in four semesters are as under.
(b) Five Year Integrated M.A. in History: Since the Academic Year 2006 -07 the Department has been offering a Five year Integrated M.A. Programme, the number of students at the admission stage being 25.
(c) Research Programme: In the Research Programme 10 students registered for M.Phil/ Ph.D. in the Department
Conferences Organised
Perspectives of South Indian History and Culture – 2004
The Department organised a National Seminar on “Perspectives of South Indian History and Culture” with the generous financial assistance of rupees one lakh extended by the Indian Council of Historical Research. The Conference organised during 30th March – 1 April 2004 with the generous financial assistance of rupees one lakh extended by the Indian Council of Historical Research was inaugurated by Prof. V.N. Rajashekaran Pillai, Vice – Chairman, U.G.C., New Delhi. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. K.K.N. Kurup, Professor of History & former Vice – Chancellor, University of Calicut. Eminent senior academicians hailed from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Maharastra, and thirty seven delegates attended the Conference and presented papers. The valedictory session was attended by Justice Dr V.S. Malimath, former Chief Justice of Karnataka & Kerala High Court. The Valedictory address was delivered by Prof. P. Jagadeesan, Professor of History and former Vice–Chancellor of Bharatidasan University, Tiruchirapalli.
