Kannada Language and Literature
      Kannada is a member of the Southern Group of Dravidian Language Family.  The history of the language goes back to 2000 years and the first written document is available in the inscription belonging to 450 A.D..  The first literary document is kavirAjamArga written in 850 A.D.
Nature of the Department
1. Research in Kannada to promote Dravidian Studies.
        * Enrichment of the Kannada Studies against the Background of Dravidian Studies.
        * Enrichment of Dravidian Studies with Focus on Kannada Studies.
2. Translation into Kannada from other Dravidian Languages and into other Dravidian Languages from Kannda,
   and Study of the same.
3. Teaching at Post Graduate level and Research Guidance.
