About the Department


Centre for Preservation of Endangered Dravidian Languages (CPeDL)


The Department of Dravidian and Computational Linguistics, established in November, 2005 is an institutional innovation of Dravidian University for fusion of Dravidian Linguistic Studies and Language Technology.

      The principal objectives of the Department are to study all 27 Dravidian languages (irrespective of its size and status), to document Dravidian Linguistic Heritage, to intercede Language Technology with Dravidian languages, to impart teaching in Linguistics, and to facilitate wider dissemination of research through outputs.

Mission

The Department, under SAP DRS-I from University Grants Commission for Documentation of Central Dravidian Languages, has a mission of Documenting Central Dravidian Languages.

      In order to work nearer to the areas of Documentation, the Department established Centre for Preservation of Endangered Dravidian Languages within its own structure.
