Sections

Acquisition Section
The physical book stock of the library grows continuously by section procuring books, back volumes of periodicals, microfilms, and rare collection of books etc. in quotation calling method. There are 22 departments on the campus having an annual book grant of Rs. 20, 00000/- per annum to the library for the purchase of books and journals.
Technical Section
All the books acquired by the library are processed scientifically for their arrangement in the shelves. The library follows Dewey decimal classification. The book numbers are given using the Cutters table. Books are catalogued according to AACR-2. Library of congress subject headings are used for providing subject headings.
Stack Area
The Stack area is spread to half of the building. Books on Philosophy, Religion, Social Sciences, Language, Sciences, Technology, Fine Arts, Literature and Geography and History are arranged in the stack area. Books about 18000 volumes in Dravidian languages like Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam and Tulu etc. are kept separately in the stack area.
Textbook Section
Multiple copies of the standard text books on different subjects are kept in this section on the recommendations of the respective heads of the departments mainly for consultation by the students and staff.
Reference & Quick reference section
The reference sources like Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Lexicographys, Directories, Year Books, Hand Books, Statistical Sources, Biographical Sources, Geographical Sources, and Reports are being maintained properly in this section for reference. Apart from the reference books, text books are also being maintained in this section. Doctoral Theses and M.Phil Dissertations of the Dravidian University is processed and maintained properly in this section.
Periodicals Section
The Indian and foreign periodicals are being subscribed. The library is proposes to subscribe Indian as well as foreign journals as per periodically utilizing the UGC grants and the annual budget every year. Current issues of journals in the subject areas of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Computer Science, Bio-Technology and Business and Management are arranged alphabetically by title. A selection of popular magazines is available in the Current Periodicals area. Back issues can be found in the display shelves. Journals do not circulate. Presently 155 journals/magazines are available in this section.
Circulation Section
This is a pivot of the library besides extending transaction facilities to its readers. The circulation section looks after the work of registration of borrowers, maintenance of relevant records, reservation of books on demand, collection of overdue charges and reminding the borrowers for returning books after the due date and finally issuing of no-dues certificates.
Competitive Examinations Cell
In order to encourage the students to prepare for competitive examinations and seek jobs an exclusive section has been created in the library. The magazines and books are acquired relating to national and state level recruitment tests such as UPSC, APPSC, NET, Banking, Railways, LIC. Various employment notifications, forth-coming conferences, admission notifications would be displayed on the notice board to help the readers. The material available in this section is being fully utilized by the students to plan their career development and for seeking employment.

Newspapers and Magazines Section
The library acquires 6 English, 9 Telugu, 2 Tamil, and 2 Kannada Newspapers covering national, regional and local papers. 25 magazines are received in the library, which include competitive and socio, economic, political and cultural.
Library Automation
The library automation helps libraries for excellent control over collection. The Library Automation work has been under taken in the DU library and 45000 volumes are entered with using SOUL software.
Digital Library
Without a Soul Can it be a Library?

Sri Narayanaguru Bhavan, now filled with treasures of knowledge of the Digital Collection, is assuming its new functions in the service of culture, languages, technology and science assigned under the patronage of His Excellency the Vice-Chancellor of Dravidian University.

For the benefit of the students, research scholars and staff of Dravidian University, Digital library/ internet facility has been provided to update knowledge and to utilize electronic information services in the library.

The Campus-Wide 2 GB Optic Fiber Cable (OFC) network of Dravidian University connected to library. The Library has 3 servers, 48 PCs, 2 printers and 2 photo copiers. Automation of Library operations are in progress. Digital Library services are available to the users with 38 PCs at free of cost. e- Journals are subscribed through DELNET etc. Number of open access journals, databases and other useful resources are available for the academic community.1218 CDs/DVDs are available which contains e-books and subject materials.

DELNET (ILL/Resource Sharing)

The library is a member of the DELNET. The library maintains excellent relations with a number of major Institutions and libraries in India through DELNET, for exchange of books, journals articles for the mutual benefit of the users. OPAC

OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility is now available at the library entrance to facilitate online search of books available in the library with Title, Author, Keyword and Subject search options
